A Romantic Morning
Nisha Joshi

There came a day in my life, when instead of rushing to get ready for work, I slipped into a pair of loose pants and flip-flops, grabbed a book, and went out for a walk. I just moseyed along the street with no agenda. A tiny voice in my mind was leading my way. Soon I came across a little park with tall old trees and dainty benches, and I just knew, it’s where I was meant to be that morning.

Once inside, I suddenly felt my attention drawn to every tree in the park. Young, old, middle-aged, each seemed to offer a different perspective, a different colour of wisdom. They gave me so much, those trees. I reached out too, resting my palms on their trunks, and feeling their calm making its way into my body. It was like meeting a bunch of friends – some old, some new. We shared an instant connect. ‘Be still.’ they said to me ‘Just stay here with us, and listen. Listen for the unstruck sounds. They reverberate in our hearts for a reason. We share this space now,’ they said, ‘So let us remain still and listen together.’

So I did. I sat there on a misty park-bench and listened. Even as my bare toes crushed the wet grass, it crushed them back. The dead-weight all crushed out of my soles, I walked back light as a feather. It was the most romantic morning of my life.
